Egypt suffers worst attack of its kind in modern history.
Between 25 and 30 armed men conducted a gun and bombing attack on the al Rawdah Sufi mosque in Bir al-Abed, according to a statement from the public prosecutor read out on Egyptian state-run news channel Nile TV.
Attackers arrived in five SUVs and were armed with automatic machine guns. They took position in front of the mosque and its entrances.
The death toll currently stands at 305, including 27 children.
