Mobalising the African Diaspora With Néné Keita

Diallo Néné Keita is the founder of YeleenMa Consulting, a consulting firm that supports start-up development in Mali.

At the end of 2017, she decided to settle in Bamako to embrace new challenges and take the lead of DiaspoHub, a start-up incubator, with the ambition to "mobilise the diaspora for innovation and change".

The organisation has supported several project leaders to mature and implement their projects.

What drew you to this topic and what made you want to speak about it with a wider audience?

I chose talk about this topic because I think that my situation is going to be one of maybe the most important dynamics on the continent. And I think Africans don’t talk about it enough, so I just wanted to share my story and my experience of relocating to Africa with my brothers and sisters.

When did you become the CEO of Diasporahub?

Being the CEO of Diasporahub, which is a start-up incubator, was the first job I got here in Mali. So this was my first professional experience in Mali. After almost 2 years, I decided to create my own company, to establish my own consulting firm, dedicated to entrepreneurs and having a focus on diaspora entrepreneurs.

How did the process of becoming CEO relate to your experience of relocating in Mali?

DiasporaHub was the first opportunity I was offered when I was planning to relocate to Mali, so I had the chance to find this job before settling in. I’d say I was quite lucky, because it’s hard to find a job remotely. Now the consulting firm is going alongside and also going deeper and further than what I was doing in DiasporaHub.
